What is the Lumenis UltraPulse CO2 Laser?

The UltraPulse CO2 laser is a state-of-the-art fractional laser technology, often regarded as the gold standard among safe ablative lasers, known for its precision and effectiveness. It uses carbon dioxide energy to penetrate deeper layers of the skin, removing damaged cells while stimulating collagen production.

Additionally, it employs short, controlled pulses, allowing your provider to treat specific areas without harming the surrounding tissue. This combination of power and control yields noticeable improvements with reduced downtime compared to traditional CO2 lasers.

What other laser treatments do you offer?

Laser technology has changed the way we care for our skin. Other laser therapies available in our office include:

  • Pico laser: It’s an ultra-short-pulse laser device designed for pigmentation issues. Since the pulses are so fast, they create a gentle pressure wave instead of heat. This makes treatment comfortable and reduces downtime.
  • XTRAC laser: It is a targeted treatment for chronic skin conditions. It delivers a precise wavelength that helps manage conditions such as psoriasis, vitiligo, and atopic dermatitis. The laser can be used on different parts of the body, including the elbows, scalp, knees, feet, and back.
  • Cynosure Cynergy Multiplex Vascular Laser: This laser is designed specifically for treating veins and vascular concerns. It uses a unique combination of two wavelengths to target blood vessels on the face and legs. The laser heats the vessels just enough to cause them to collapse and fade over time.

Every laser works uniquely. Your trained skin care provider uses each to address a wide range of skin issues with precision and comfort.

What can laser therapy treat?

Laser therapy is versatile. Depending on the laser device, we can address multiple skin concerns, including:

  • Acne scars
  • Pigmentation caused by sun damage or age
  • Port wine stains
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Surgical scars
  • Enlarged pores
  • Leg veins
  • Unwanted hair and tattoos
  • Loose or crepey skin
  • Medical skin conditions, including psoriasis, vitiligo, and eczema

Laser treatment can be applied to various body areas, including the face, neck, scalp, chest, back, and hands. Many patients opt for laser treatment when they want noticeable results without surgery.

What can I expect from the laser treatment procedure?

Every laser treatment begins with a consultation with our board-certified dermatologist, who will examine your skin and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. During the procedure, a numbing agent is applied to ensure your comfort and minimize any discomfort. You may feel warmth, pressure, or tingling during this time. The session lasts 20 to 40 minutes, and afterward, you might experience redness, mild swelling, and a warm sensation similar to sunburn, with possible flaking or peeling as your skin heals. Specific aftercare instructions will be provided for a safe recovery.

What kind of results can I expect?

Results develop in stages, with early changes noticeable after the first treatment and full improvement continuing over the following weeks or months, especially with repeat sessions. Many people experience smoother skin, fewer lines, and a more even tone, depending on the type of laser used. Results can last 1 to 2 years, but maintenance treatments, good skin care, daily sun protection, and healthy habits can help extend their longevity.

What are the benefits of laser treatment?

Skin laser treatments are popular for many reasons. Here are some:

  • Minimally invasive: Laser technology uses light energy instead of needles, scalpels, and sutures. Achieve your desired skin care goals without incisions or other invasive techniques.
  • Versatility: Laser therapy isn’t a one-trick pony. It can address over 20 medical and cosmetic skin concerns.
  • Minimal downtime: You can resume your everyday activities right after treatment. Although resurfacing lasers, such as the CO2 device, may require more downtime, it’s minimal compared to surgery.
  • Quick and comfortable treatment: We can complete most treatments in under 30 minutes. Patients also find the procedure tolerable.
  • Natural-looking results: The objective of laser treatment is to enhance your appearance, not change it. After treatment, your skin continues to renew itself for several weeks. This gives you a natural, refreshed look instead of a sudden, dramatic change.
