The formation of wrinkles on the face

Wrinkles form for two main reasons: static wrinkles are caused by a reduction in vital elements such as hyaluronic acid, elastin and collagen, and dynamic wrinkles are caused by repetitive muscle motion.

Fillers such as Juvederm work primarily to combat static wrinkles. When the skin loses elastin and collagen it is essentially losing the structure that supports it. Injectables such as Juvederm replace and restore these vital elements to return the skin to a more youthful appearance.

Dermal fillers can be combined with other injectables such as Botox which are used to treat dynamic wrinkles. When paired together, the two can deliver total facial rejuvenation.

What is Juvederm?

Woman having fresh skinJuvederm is a specific brand of injectable filler that can fill in lost volume and smooth away unwanted lines and wrinkles. It’s made from hyaluronic acid which can be found naturally in the body. Hyaluronic is considered one of the body’s natural internal moisturizers. As we age, our skin is continually exposed to different elements such as UV rays and environmental pollutants. Over time, this exposure impacts the skin cell’s ability to keep producing adequate amounts of hyaluronic acid, leading to a loss of volume and moisture and ultimately, the formation of wrinkles on the face.

When Juvederm is injected into the skin, it combines with the water in your skin to fill in lost volume and wrinkles or fold on the face. Juvederm also boosts the body’s natural production of collagen which improves volume and facial contours.

Juvederm’s unique gel formulation prevents it from breaking down too quickly in the body, allowing for longer lasting results than other fillers with a grainy consistency.

Candidates for Juvederm:

Juvederm is great for patients who want to see correction in the following areas:

  • Deep folds such as marionette lines or nasolabial folds
  • Thin lines around the eyes, mouth, or forehead
  • Filling in thinning lips
  • Restoration of volume around the cheeks and mid-section of the face
  • Improving facial contours around the chin and jowls

Juvederm injections

Juvederm is uniquely formulated with lidocaine to make the injections as comfortable as possible. Our highly skilled injectors also use round-tipped microcannulas during the injection process which minimizes post-treatment bleeding or bruising.

Possible side effects from Juvederm are redness, swelling, itching, or tenderness at the injection sites. These are often mild and resolve within a week. It’s advised to avoid sun exposure and alcoholic drinks for a minimum of 24 hours after injections.

Results from Juvederm

Woman with perfect skinAfter your Juvederm treatment, you will notice immediate, natural-looking results. Juvederm’s smooth consistency allows it to flow easily into the skin and its minimally invasive nature means there is no downtime. In fact, many patients come in on their lunchbreak to receive Juvederm injections and then go on about the rest of their day.

On average, results from Juvederm may last anywhere from six months to a year. Many patients choose to schedule touch-up injections to extend their results. Touch-up injections use about half of the gel used in in the initial injections.
