My wife and I went into Dr. Roger Koreen's office to get our skin checked and a few problem areas treated. We did not have any skin doctor and others we tried had appointments that were over 6 months away. We were pleased to get an appointment not too far in advance. When we got there the office was pleasant and the people nice. Dr Koreen was very friendly and took his time in caring for us. Later, I came back for further treatment and again it was a pleasant experience. I thanked him for his knowledge and ability to help me out. Thanks Dr. Koreen!Marianne WMore reviews
Unfortunately, I have had many experiences with doctors. My father had recommended me to Dr. Koreen about 15 years ago. First you will be greeted by very friendly and warm receptionists. The waiting room is extremely clean and comfortable with plenty of seating, magazines and TV’s. The wait time is always reasonable (10-15mins) considering Dr. Koreen always spends quality time for exam and questions (never rushed). He always educates you on the most modern treatments and offering the best options. Dr. Koreen now treats my teenage kids after many years of superior treatment and second to none care. I strongly trust and highly recommend Dr. Koreen and his staff.Thomas MMore reviews

Huntington dermatologist describes how chemical peels treatment improves skin
By Dr. Roger Koreen
Professional chemical peels are a simple way to transform the appearance of your skin. The cosmetic procedure can improve many common skin conditions such as sun spots, acne, and wrinkles, enhance the complexion and improve skin tone. There are several different levels of peels, so it’s important to meet with a team of professionals who can match you with the correct peel for your skin type and need. At The Dermatology & Cosmetic Laser Center in Huntington, NY, we offer a variety of chemical peels that will leave your skin looking rejuvenated and refreshed.
What are chemical peels?
Chemical peels use gentle, skin-safe acids to thoroughly exfoliate the skin. By “peeling” away the dead, outer layer of skin, it allows new, fresh skin cells to be revealed. The entire process evens out skin tone and texture, bringing forth skin that is hydrated and vibrant.
Depending on the skin type and need, a specific type or combinations of acids will be used on the skin. We offer everything from superficial peels, which have virtually no downtime to medium depth peels that can have side effects for up to a week.
With superficial peels, patients will notice some immediate redness that fades away quickly, followed by gentle sloughing of the skin over the course of several days. These types of peels are commonly referred to as lunch time peels. These types of peels are recommended for large pores, dark spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and skin firming.
With medium depth peels, there is a more intensive recovery that can last for up to a week. During the recovery, the skin will be red needs to be constantly covered in ointment. While the recovery process should not be painful, these types of peels do make it difficult to go out in public. Medium depth peels are recommended for significant sun damage, acne scarring, and to improve crepey skin under the eyes.

Prior to receiving a chemical peel, the skin should be thoroughly cleaned and free of any make-up, sunscreen or other cosmetics. Any oil on the skin can act as a barrier to the acid. Ointment is applied around the eyes, nose, mouth, and lips to keep them protected.
The amount of time the acid stays on the skin depends on the type and strength of the peel. Superficial peels will neutralize themselves after a period of time while neutralizing agents will need to be applied to stronger peels to stop them from working.
Chemical peels cause a reaction that triggers a small injury to the skin which dissolves the outer layer of dead skin and promotes healing and building of new collagen for fresh, new skin.
If you want your skin to look younger, rejuvenated and refreshed, we encourage patients to do the following at home to keep the skin looking gorgeous.
Hydrate your skin (both inside and outside)
While drinking plenty of water is helpful for your skin (and your overall health), you still need to hydrate from the outside with creams and serums.
Avoid long, hot showers
While taking a hot, steamy shower can be very relaxing, it can be extremely drying to the skin. Also avoid hot water while washing the face, try to use water that is lukewarm.
Make sure to wear sunscreen daily
Most of us think about using sunscreen when we are out by the pool or at the beach, but the truth is sunscreen should be used daily. Over time, sun exposure from driving and other daily activities can damage the skin. When applying, don’t forget about your chest, neck, and hands.
If your lips need moisturizer, so does the rest of your skin
Your lips are often the first place you’ll notice feeling dry when there is low humidity. Keep your lips and your skin hydrated with a creamy moisturizer.
Practice facial massages
Repeated muscle contractions in the face can lead to aging such as frown lines and crow’s feet. Using facial acupressure at night can relax the face and slow the progression of lines and wrinkles.
Be mindful of what you eat
What you put into your body affects the appearance of your skin. Try to consume foods that are rich with omega 3’s to keep skin glowing.
